All proceeds from this event directly benefit the growth of the Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada's Schools Partnership Program. In 2013-2014 over 6,500 K-12 special education students will train and compete in soccer basketball and track & field. By participating in Special Olympics, athletes gain self-confidence and self-esteem that carries over into their every day lives, leading to greater academic success, improved interpersonal relationships and school experience.
Not only do the special education students benefit from the program, but so do their non-disabled peers who serve as mentors and student coaches, promoting diversity and acceptance for everyone. What the heck is Polar Plungefest?
Well there is no doubt about it, it is a crazy event, that is for sure. In fact, it helps to be just a tad crazy to do it. Basically people register online, set a fundraising goal and then email, family friends and colleagues to support them. Then, here comes the crazy part, everyone jumps into Lake Tahoe, complete in costume! The event is open to the general public. Don't want to plunge but still want to participate? No problem you can register as a chicken and still partake in all the festivities. Check it out!
Guest packages are available for purchase for those teams who wish to bring more than 8 guests. Guests can elect to attend specific events or buy an entire package which includes all festivities for the weekend, including housing and meals.
We have all sorts of volunteer opportunities available over the course of the weekend. Be apart of the action! Learn more
